Wall Street runs from East Broadway to South Street on East River, through the historical center of the financial district. Wall Street is the home of the first permanent Stock Exchange; over time Wall Street became the name of the surrounding geographic neighbourhood.
Anchored by Wall Street, New York City is the financial capital of the world. In 1789, Federal Hall and Wall Street were the scene of the United States’ first presidential inauguration.
The loss of The World Trade Center in September 2001 has spurred development of the Wall Street area on a scale that hasn’t been seen in decades.
In november 2008 US shares have fallen sharply amid increasing concerns over the state of world’s economy.
